Is Steven To Blame for Cruelty at Red Robin?
Steven K. Lumpkin is a Board Director with Red Robin, an American restaurant chain with over 450 locations.
Under Steven’s leadership, Red Robin is neglecting a serious animal cruelty issue. In the U.S., Red Robin sources the majority of its eggs from disgusting and cruel factory farms that cage chickens so tightly they can barely move. This practice is so inhumane it is illegal in many U.S. states and dozens of countries. Red Robin has been lying to its customers for over a decade claiming they would get rid of this practice, but there’s been little action.
It’s time for Steven to take a stand against this cruelty.
Throughout his career, Steven K. Lumpkin has occupied leadership positions and advisory roles at many companies including Price Waterhouse, Applebee’s, B Cellars, Victorian Trading Co, Merryck & Co, Consumer Growth Partners, and Buffets, Inc.
Steven currently sits on the boards of Hodgdon Powder Company, Jack’s Stack Restaurant Group, and Unlimited Tours & Safaris.
Steven’s affiliations would be wise to distance themselves.
If Steven is able to ignore basic issues of animal cruelty, can he really be trusted for responsible leadership? It’s time for these companies to speak out and condemn the practices allowed under Steven’s watch or risk the reputational fallout of being associated with such a leader.

Steven’s company can do better.
According to the Center for Food Safety, cage conditions can compromise food safety. Hens in battery cages are “often covered in feces from birds in overhead cages and are prone to drowning in manure trenches,” leading to increased contamination risks.
Red Robin claims to care about “Treating Animals with Integrity” and yet it is doing almost nothing to address even the most basic of animal welfare issues. What else is the company lying to customers about?
